"Good God! to have a room of one's own with a real fire and books and tea and company, and no dinner bells and distractions, and a little time for doing something! It's a wonderful vision, and surely worth some risks."
-- Lytton Strachey to Duncan Grant, 23 August 1909 (British Library).
Dear Section 21,
I am looking forward to renaming you (dear class, dear friends, dear fellows in writing...). That renaming will happen quite soon: Wednesday at 12:05 in Sellery Hall (room 49: our class's home space for this term). At that point, we can talk more about writing, about our class this fall term, about assignments and procedures, about this blog and how we want to use it.
Until then, I just want to take the chance to welcome you to the University of Wisconsin, from whatever home you're leaving, and to hope that our writing together this term will happily begin your making a home in Madison. At least for a while.
Please email me with any questions you have before Wednesday.
best wishes,
matt
